Just for Fun

God gave me a set of bolt cutters!

Calm down! No, I haven't gone off my rocker like Todd Bentley down there in Lakeland, Florida! I don't mean literally at all. I'm going to get there, trust me. I often hear non-Christians say their reason for staying away is they don't want to give up having fun. Silly unbelievers! To those on the outside looking in they think we Christians are oppressed. Well I am here to dispel that myth! It couldn't be farther from the truth, actually I think it could be referred to as an antonym. Romans 12:2 "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." We demonstrate true free will in deciding to turn from sin, go against the stream and follow Christ. Now here comes the bolt cutters I spoke of... the cleansing blood and forgiveness in Jesus Christ gave me the ability to turn away from sin. To the unsaved, including myself in the past, sin is like being chained to a giant rock and being thrown in the ocean. Struggle as you may to get out of the water, you are constantly being dragged down by the rock. Well when you give your life to Christ you get the spiritual equivalent of bolt cutters to free yourself from the chain, and the rock. You are now free to swim to the surface and climb out of the pool of sin. True freedom can now begin. Does this mean the saved are not subject sin? Not at all. Just we have a weapon against sin, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We as living being will struggle with sin always. Back to Christians being oppressed, we are born again with new desires. The only thing that changes is the sin. Take for example my brother, his passion was skating, now that he is saved does he no longer skate? Of course he does, more than ever! (By the way see his blog for more details) Just now he skates with out sin, and for the glory of God. Doing the same work Christ came to do, to seek and save the lost. In short, we, being saved, are free from the bondage of sin that enslaves the unsaved. There is no loss of fun, in fact only true joy comes in the freedom we enjoy in Christ Jesus! True power comes only through true submission. And I know I quoted this verse just a few posts back, but it is again fitting for the subject...
Ephesians 6:12 (New King James Version)
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
